Mint Juleps

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp. grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh Mint leaves, removed from the stems or 1/3 cup dried mint
  • Crushed Ice
  • Lemonade
  • Club soda
  • Mint leaves for garnish, optional
  • Lemon slices for garnish, optional
  1. Add the sugar, minced ginger and water in a small pan and cook on medium heat just until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and pour into a large jar to cool.
  2. Add the mint to the cooled water, making sure the mint is fully immersed in the water. Leave it for several hours or overnight to let the flavors steep into the water.  (Also, refrigerate lemonade and club soda.)
  3. Prior to serving, strain the mint syrup.
  4. Fill glasses 1/2 full with crushed ice.  Pour in 1 part club soda and 2-3 parts lemonade.
  5. Pour in 1-2 Tbs mint syrup, to taste
  6. Garnish with mint leaves and a slice of lemon, if desired.
I like how the club soda helps the drink to not be too sweet and adds a little fizz.
